Making Sense of the Events in Syria and its Neighbours – Martin Cronin

February 6, 2014 @ 05:00pm

Please join us on Thursday, February 6 to welcome our guest speaker Martin Cronin.

He will address our Society on the Middle East, with particular reference to the conflict in Syria, Iran’s intentions and the bloody conflict within Islam between Sunni and Shia. In doing so, he will seek to draw out what that means for our own security interests.

Martin has over twenty years of experience in international diplomacy with the British Government, including postings in Yemen, Jordan, Sweden, Pakistan and Iraq. He has extensive experience of working closely with the military in these environments.

Before moving to the private sector, Martin was British Consul-General to Western Canada, based in Vancouver. His areas of expertise include conflict resolution, counter-terrorism policy, and international trade. Martin is now Chief Executive Officer of Helios Global Technologies in Kelowna, a company specializing in tracking and survivability technologies.
