Michael Szonyi – How Will Rural China Impact China’s Future?

Please join us on Thursday, January 6, 2022 to welcome our guest speaker Professor Michael Szonyi who will speak on How will Rural China Impact China’s Future.

We have heard several presentations on China, each exploring a different aspect of the country, its people and it governmental policies. This presentation will expand our knowledge of China and the dynamics and drivers of its politics. We are honoured to have Professor Szonyi with us for his presentation.

Professor Szonyi is a Professor of Chinese History at Harvard University. Mr. Szonyi received his B.A. from the University of Toronto and his doctorate from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He has also studied at National Taiwan University and Xiamen University. He came to Harvard in 2005 and is an Associate Professor of the Humanities and Professor of Chinese History. Professor Szonyi was appointed director of Harvard’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies in 2015. Michael’s wife, Francine is a professor of international relations at the University of Western Ontario.
