2010 Year in Review

• On April 7th, 2010 featrued speaker Colonel Keith Maxwell who spoke on “Vimy and Passchendaele – A Candian Success Story”.
• On June 14th, 2010 The Society held its Annual Banquet. Mr. Ron Cohen, spoke on “Churchill, The Author”.
• On September 16th, 2010 Terry Anne Wilson, Professor at the Vancouver Art Institute, spoke on “Churchill and the Film Industry”.
• On October 21st, 2010 our Evening with Churchill featured speaker Dr. Jim Boutilier, who spoke on “Piracy and Canada’s Navy off Somalia”.
• On November 11th, 2010 of the Society, in conjunction with Simon Fraser University, hosted an event where Denis Smyth made his presentation entitled “From Swan Son to Siren Song: British Deception, Greek REsistance and the Destruction of the Axis in 1943″ which focused on how British deception planners managed to persuade the German High Command that the Allies were about to attack Greece rather than Sicily in the summer of 1943. The event was attended by approximately 90 members of the Society.
• On November 16, 2010 our Annual General Meeting and dinner featured speaker Colonel (Retired) Keith Maxwell gave a fascinating presentation on “Canada’s 100 Days – The Last 100 Days of the First World War. The Churchill Communications Challenge Trophy and a cheque for a Sir Winston Spencer Churchill Memorial Fund Scholarship were present to the First Prize winner of the Essay Contest, Mr. Ozren Jungic of Simon Fraser University for his excellent paper entitled “A Confluence of Objectives:British Policy Towards Yugoslavia During the Second World War”. The Second Prize scholarship cheque was presented to Mr. Robert Gagliano of the University of British Columbia for his essay entitled “The United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT)”.
